FAQ

What is the Modo Yoga community all about?

Modo Yoga is a community of independent hot yoga studios, guided by our 6 Pillars, united by our love for yoga, and dedicated to creating a more sustainable world. With over 70 locations across North America, Europe and Australia – every studio is a place for all. We welcome all bodies and all abilities, whether you are a beginner or an experienced student.

What can I expect from a Modo Yoga class?

All Modo Yoga classes are built on the foundation of our Modo series – a dynamic system of postures and breathing exercises specifically designed to be practiced in the heat. Modo classes are accessible to all, from beginners to advanced students. A typical Modo class will have around 40 postures. Each class is intended to open, strengthen, and relax the entire body.

How hot is Modo Yoga?

Classes are heated to approx. 36 degrees celsius through infrared heating panels, with approx. 40% humidity. External weather conditions and the number of students in the class can have an effect on the temperature inside the room. If you’ve never practiced hot yoga before it might feel quite hot during your first class, but over time, your body will acclimatize to the heat. Students are encouraged to move through each class mindfully, taking rest and water when needed.

I'm the least flexible person in the entire world...

You're not the only one! Being the least flexible person in the entire world is the best reason to try a Modo Yoga class! But really, don’t worry if you can't touch your toes or balance on one foot – both will come with time. You don’t have to be flexible to try your first class.

What should I wear?

Wear something that you feel comfortable in that is easy to move around in. You will probably sweat a lot, so lightweight, breathable materials that will absorb sweat and dry quickly are best. Tops and bottoms are required for all genders.

What should I bring?

You'll need a yoga mat, towel, and water for class. Your towel will go on top of your mat so you're not slipping on your sweat. We have filtered water available at the studio so BYOB – bring your own bottle! Yoga mats, mat towels, and shower towels are also available to rent if you don't have your own. We have full shower facilities in our changerooms.

How long are your classes?

Our classes are 60, 75, or 90 minutes long. We have a variety of classes at various lengths, so please check the schedule to see what works for you!

When should I arrive for class?

We start promptly and do not allow latecomers into class so aiming to be at the studio 15 min before class is a good habit. If you've booked online please arrive at least 5 min before class or your spot may be given to someone dropping in. Our front door is unlocked 30 min before class. Feel free to come early and have some tea in our lounge area.

What are some of the benefits of yoga?

Yoga builds strength and flexibility. It also makes us more aware of our breath, which ultimately helps to relax and calm the body and mind. People who practice regularly often notice that they are happier, have better focus, and are more able to handle the stresses of everyday life.
